No one will have thought of that!

We’re approaching summer season
Where we all see valid reason
To enjoy the sun between the clouds
And get away, escape the crowds

The days are long, they will be hot
We’ll haunt the local beauty spot
No one will have thought of that!
I’ll pack the suncream, chairs and hats

In traffic’s grip we sit and sigh
Engines revving, time ticks by
Bumpers graze, we inch along
Impatience clear, frustrations strong

At last arrived, it’s time to park
Round we go, a hopeful spark
Fellow tourists we must chase
Like vultures for an empty space

Success in car park number four!
Bathrooms now, then we’ll explore
Nothing more today could spoil it
Not the line snaked round the toilets…

Hunger is now fast encroaching
Lines for food we are approaching
We’ll get some ice cream, and some chips
But oh the price! My wallet dips

Sometime later, to the lake
Photos we’re inclined to take
We muscle for a front row view
Whatever happened to the queue?

In front of me all heads are bobbing
At the back my head is throbbing
To be frank I gain no pleasure
Visiting this local treasure

Good these plans are, great them seem
But there is something unforeseen:
You cannot just enjoy the view
When everyone has come here too

Us tourists so predictable
And others so despicable
We should’ve gone to a resort
But then we’d face a large airport

So on the next fine sunny day
I’ll bask in my secluded bay
Where herons fish and sunlight shimmers
Stars above, the night sky glimmers

A place of such tranquility
Of much desirability
Think I’ll disclose my perfect spot?
Well think again, for I will not.
